I received awesome health care attention by Urologist Dr. Carlos Calvosa Allegretti. Since most of our clients are over 50 years old, I though it well worth it to tell you about a great experience that I have had with my urologist.

After living 30 years in Costa Rica I still hate those doctors that love to fill up their waiting room and probably need to show us, their patients, that they are busy professionals. I am a busy real estate agent and there is nothing worse than sitting in a waiting room for more than 15 - 20 minutes. But Costa Rica health care has become a lot better than it used to me and you can get better medial services than in many 2nd world countries.

Actually, just this week, my Otorino had me again waiting for 1 1/2 hours in his waiting room, but I'll tell you more about that one another day. For now, let me give you the good news.

Well, I've had some trouble lately and visited a Urologist and I had no clue who to go to. I went onto the CIMA hospital website to look for a Urologist. Doing this exercise now again, I found out the English CIMA website is incomplete, so if you are looking for a doctor at CIMA, do it on the Spanish website or call their helpdesk (506) 2208-1000.

There, I found like 7 Urologists but one who is listed as a specialist using Greenlight laser. I have had my eyes lasered some years ago and also had my throat lasered agains snoring (more abotu this experience some other day), I thought this was a good idea.

I called to make an appointment and to my great surprise i got an appointment the same week (this was beginning December 2010).

When I arrived at my appointment, the secretary told me that I was early. Yes, 10 minutes, I said. She said most locals arrive late (yeah right). Ten minutes after the appointed time, I was show in with the doctor, I couldn't believe it. Actually, one guy came in after me and was told he missed his an appointment and would have to wait for space. I'd never seen this happen here anywhere.

Dr. Carlos Calvosa turned out to be a very open minded and easy to talk to doctor who speaks, for your knowledge, excellent English, even though I speak in Spanish with him.

Greenlight Laser in Costa Rica

He had me take some tests, he followed up on time, more tests and I got operated by him yesterday morning with Greenlight Laser PVP to repair a prostate problem that I had. Read more about the Greenlight laser.

The Greenlight laser is a ambulatory surgery, so the sequence was very simple: 9:30 am in CIMA ambulatory department, downstairs, next to the Pharmacy. 10:00 am into pre-anestesia, 11:am into the operation room. I got a very nice lunch, as lunches in the Cima hospital are delicious while waiting for the anestesia to go away. I was home at 3:30 pm, feeling great and of course couldn't stop myself of taking care of some emails.

This morning, the dear doctor took away the piping they'd left and I took the advantage of taking his picture, so you'd know who he is when you need a good urologist. Through this blog, I would like to thank him for the great and unusual attention and even though I am not up and running yet, until now I am more than happy. I'll report again on this in 4 weeks.

Insurance

I have a medical insurance with INS, the local insurance company, who approved the operation in a week time and I only had to pay 10% of the $4,800 operation. INS took care of the rest.
