Finally some work on the water supply in Escazu and part of Santa Ana. Traffic backing up and machinery at work on the old road from Escazu to Santa Ana made me wonder what was going on.
Huge pipes at the side of the road and some machines digging up almost half the asphalt (almost a full lane) started worrying me as the municipality Escazu is not so well known for trying to keep up with the growth of what was once a small village and has now turned almost into a city.
I saw these huge pipes and of course wanted to know what was going on. Calling around didn't get me there and some more research finally got me to the A y A's website (water company, called Acuaductos y Alcantarillados) where it says:
Strengthening of Water Supply of Escazú and Santa Ana
"Over 320 thousand people will benefit from a new system of Drinking Water"
I took some pictures there because I was remembering that 28 years ago I used to live in that exact same neighborhood and during summertime we would be without water supply for 3 months in a row and we would have to pay for truckloads of water to fill our back up tanks so we could take a shower every day. Between all the neighbors, we pitched in enough money to get the A y A install a pump at the Paco. Once they installed the pumps, all the waterlines in the neighborhood (steel and rusted/rotten through) went bust. We had fountains of water throught the neighborhood until we got enough money together to replace the waterlines. Those good old times....bring lots of good memories but also of some hardship.
But now, A y A is telling us they are installing a new system for drinking water in Escazu. I guess we won't have any more mud in the waterpipes in the beginning of the rainy season. Almost nobody drinks out of the tap here in Escazu.
I hope it will all work when they are finished and indeed 320 thousand people will benefit from all the hard work the water company is doing for us.
I also hope they will soon re-pave the road between Escazu and Santa Ana, before any accidents will happen, because we have now only one lane left for two ways of traffic. Of course nobody wants to drive through those huge potholes they have created, so everyone drives in the middle of the road.
If you are looking to buy Costa Rica real estate, you should have a good look at Escazu, as soon we will have plenty of water and you might be able to drink out of the tap.
I will report again as soon as the water supply is up some notches and the road is nicely paved.
